Obergfoell warms up for Games

Berlin: Two-time world silver medallist Christina Obergfoell achieved the fourth best javelin throw of the year so far with 66.92 metres at a meeting in Leverkusen on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old German won the competition with her final throw to beat local girl Linda Stahl, who managed a personal best 66.06 metres in the sixth round on her home track.

Obergfoell’s best throw of the season so far came in June when she managed 67.72m, the third second longest distance of the year behind world leader Barbora Spotakova.

The Czech Republic athlete threw 69.15m at the end of May in Zaragoza and 68.81m in Prague in June.

Obergfoell finished second at both the 2005 and 2007 world championships and came tenth at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. — AFP
