Lankan record at stake

Aug. 7: At the start of the series, Mahela Jayawardene had spoken about the pride the team takes in having a stupendous record against at home. Only two countries have a more superior record than the Sri Lankans. Barring Australia and Pakistan, other teams have only had their inflated egos punctured. India have three wins to four losses here and would be itching to get their record even.
Jayawardene spoke on the Test and the conditions at the P. Sara Oval. Excerpts:
On the deciding Test and the threat of losing a home series: It will be a good Test. We’ve played some really good cricket this series and everyone is a getting a fair measure on what to do. It is going to be an interesting battle that has everything to play for. The thought of losing has not occurred at all. We played a really good Test at the SSC, we fought very well at Galle and we’re looking forward to this one.
On the pitch: This is a pretty good wicket. Over the years it’s been a very sporting wicket. And it has something to offer for the medium pacers and spinners. Once the batsmen get their eye in they can go on to build a good score.
On Sehwag being the main threat: Viru batted really well at Galle. He took his chances and credit goes to him. India is getting some good starts and that’s something we will definitely be working on.

Kohli fulfills father’s dream
By Our Correspondent
Mumbai
Aug. 7: It was an emotional moment for Virat Kohli after finding a place in the India’s one-day team. The 19-year-old, who led the under-19 team to World Cup triumph earlier this year, remembered his late father’s contributions to his career. "My father always wanted me to play for India. He always dreamt that I would play in the blue jersey alongside Sachin Tendulkar. Today, his dream has come true but unfortunately he is not here to witness my success. But I know if he had been here he would be a proud man." Kohli said on Thursday.
