Mondal nets for Bagan

Kolkata, Aug. 26: Mohun Bagan on Tuesday consolidated their position atop the Calcutta Football League (Premier Division) standings, with a facile 1-0 victory over Railway FC, here.

Playing without Brazilian striker Jose Ramirez Barreto, who missed out due to an injury, the defending champions did not seem to be in trouble against the Railway FC.

Just before the changeover, Habibur Rehman Mondal scored the only goal of the match on 43rd minute.

Anticipating Peter Odafe’s throw-in well, Rakesh Masih placed himself near the Railway FC’s goalmouth and headed the ball to Habibur, who did not falter in the melee and gently pushed the ball into the net. The Karim Bencherifa-coached team shot into the lead with 23 points from 10 matches after the win. — PTI
