Vijender’s dad roughed up by security personnel

Aug. 26: Blunders by Delhi Police and CISF marked the reception of the Indian contigent from Beijing on Tuesday, with Vijender Singh’s father, Mahipal Singh Beniwal being manhandled by plice personnel as he tried to make way past the crowds and enter the VIP enclosure to meet his son.
Beniwal was grabbed by his collar and pushed by a policeman while Vijender’s uncle Ramesh Singh and brother Manoj Singh were barred from entering the enclosure as the security persons failed to recognise them.
The father was later allowed entry, though not before he voiced his disgust to the waiting mediapersons. "I’m the father of an Olympic bronze medallist and this is how I’m treated," said Beniwal, who had come all the way from Bhiwani in Haryana.
The crowd, predictably, reacted to the incident and jumped the security barricades of a presumably very high security zone.
Securitymen stood there helpless as hordes of fans broke the cordon and took the mediapersons stationed at their pre-designated locations by surprise.
Vijender was whisked away in an armoured car, but that did not stop supporters from climbing on top of it, waving banners.
The boxer, lapping up the adulation, did not seem to mind, but many eyed nervously as the crowd leaned and shoved each other just to rub shoulders with their sporting heroes.
