Maharashtra to host Shivaji Test Games
Pune: With less than two months to go for the third Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, host Maharashtra is gearing up to organise ‘Shivaji Maharaj Test Games’ where 1500 athletes will be seen in action in nine disciplines from August 29.
Aimed at testing the newly-created facilities at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex in Balewadi, the 14-day meet will also give a platform to the aspiring athletes before the CYG starts off on October 12.
The meet will be held in three stages with the first to see competition in four disciplines — badminton, weightlifting, boxing and tennis.
The inauguration of the Test Games will be held on August 29, said Games Technical Conduct Committee joint convener Pralhad Sawant.
Day one will see badminton and tennis competitions, while the second stage will have wrestling and table tennis events from September 4-8.
The last leg, from September 9 to 11, will involve athletics, swimming and shooting competitions.
