At stumps, India 82/0 in reply to South Africa's 540

Chennai: Virender Sehwag scored an unbeaten 52 as India finished the second day at 82 for no loss in the first test match against South Africa at the M A Chidambara Stadium in the city today. Wasim Jaffer was the other unbeaten batsman on 25. Earlier, South Africa were all out for 540 in their first innings. Hashim Amla top scored with 159 while Mark Boucher scored 70. Harbhajan Singh emerged as the pick of the Indian bowlers claiming five wickets for 164 runs. Resuming from the overnight score of 304/4, the visitors started the day on a high note as both Hashim Amla and A B De Villers scored at will. Frustration on the faces of the Indian bowlers was clearly evident, as they failed to get an early breakthrough. However, speedster Sreesanth managed to get rid off A B De Villers (44) when he was looking dangerous. But his dismissal could not check the flow of runs as Amla kept the scoreboard ticking and went on to complete his ton. He was run out by Kumble at the score of 159. At Tea, South Africa were 501/6 but managed to add only 39 runs to the total.(IANS)
