Govt may soon announce relief for Bundelkhand farmers
Expressing concern over the condition of farmers due to severe drought in the region of Bundelkhand, Government today informed the Lok Sabha that a special programme for the region would be announced soon.
New Delhi Expressing concern over the condition of farmers due to severe drought in the region of Bundelkhand, Government today informed the Lok Sabha that a special programme for the region would be announced soon."Although we have not received any special proposal for the Bundelkhand region, but it requires a separate programme and a long-term solution has to be found for the region. We are going in this direction only," said Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar.
With regard to Madhya Pradesh's demand for over Rs 1,883 crore from the National Calamity Contingency Fund, the Minister said "A high-level committee will meet tomorrow to discuss the report from the state." A final decision will be taken on May 8 or 9, Pawar said.
Pawar said that the governments of Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh declared drought in parts of the states mainly due to deficient rainfall but no memorandum for drought relief assistance from the NCCF has so far been received from Rajasthan or Uttar Pradesh. (PTI)
