BJP wants subsidy on food items to combat inflation
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has put a new demand to the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government "in order to give relief to the common man in view of rising prices"
Talking to media persons, party spokesperson, Prakash Javadekar said, "In the view of very high prices of all commodities, the government should give heavy subsidy on rice, wheat, pulses, sugar and edible oils through public distribution shops if the government is serious in giving any respite the aam aadmi, the common man."
Javadekar also shot down the measures taken by the government and the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) by calling these measures would only push the inflation rate further up. He also alleged that the UPA government was not taking adequate steps to check black-marketing of LPG cylinders and profiteering in steel and cement by the traders. The BJP also asked the UPA as to "why it is not implementing the policy of revenue neutralisation in petrol and diesel."
BJP National Executive Meet on May 31
In order to extract maximum benefit from the current price rise situation, the BJP would be holding its national executive meet on May 31, June1 and 2. The 3-day meet would deliberate upon the price situation, apart from finalising the poll strategy for the Assembly elections later this year.
However, the BJP officials refused to divulge the agenda of the meet saying, "it has not been decided yet, but it will focus on exposing the UPA".
