LJP to contest all seats in Delhi, MP, J&K

Seeking to expand its base, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) has decided to contest all the seats in Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir during the upcoming assembly elections.

The decision was taken at the party's Parliamentary Board meeting, chaired by its chief and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan, sources said.

The LJP decided to field its candidates in all the 70 seats in Delhi, 231 seats in Madhya Pradesh and 87 seats in Jammu and Kashmir notwithstanding its alliance with Congress at the Centre.

Explaining this, a senior party leader said LJP has an alliance with Congress only at the Centre and in the states it is free to contest independently.

“We have made it clear to the Congress leadership,” the leader said.

The party feels it will be able to win a considerable number of seats in all the three states slated to go to polls in the next six months.

The move is aimed at expanding the party's base beyond Bihar by reaching out to Dalits and other backward communities in other states.

LJP Chief Ram Vilas Paswan recently toured Jammu and Kashmir, holding public meetings at various places in the state. Over the next few months, he will travel to the state again to campaign hard for the party. Paswan will also be touring extensively in Madhya Pradesh.
