I would have handled the incident much better : Dalmiya

KOLKATS: Former BCCI president Jagmohan Dalmiya said on Friday he could have handled the Harbhajan Singh incident much better, had he been at the helm of affairs.

"This whole thing of Harbhajan Singh ended in a sort of controversy which it should not have. People are talking about BCCI money and clout, which should not have been the case. It should have been resolved much more amicably," he opined.

Dalmiya was speaking at a book launch 'Corridor of Uncertainty' by Boria Majumder.

Dalmiya broke his silence after a self-imposed exile from cricket for over a year.

However, when asked if he was staging a comeback, the ever elusive cricket administrator said, "You will have to leave it on time and the sportslovers of the country."

Talking about the World Cup held in West Indies, he said, "When the decision was taken, I was with the ICC. We had heard of the pressure of World Cup hitting Windies and therefore we had decided on principle as the parent body of cricket to help Windies in whatever way deemed fit."

So it was not out of the blue that the ICC had suddenly decided to help Windies.

Other distinguished members of the panel were artist Shuvaprasanna, former Indian cricketer Devang Gandhi and former national selector Sambaran Banerjee.
