Bomb scare at Howrah railway station

Sniffer dogs were brought in but in the end it turned out to be harmless. There were clothes and a lot of cash inside. The bag was handed back to its owner who had left it on the platform while disembarking from the Mumbai Mail.

It was the GRP that detected the bag on platform number 22 and sounded an alert. After close to four hours of checking, the GRP decided to open it. It was found stuffed with clothes and Rs 1.2 lakh in cash.

Later, it was revealed that the owner of the bag, Kalpana Barui, had left it on the platform by mistake. She took a train to Katlia in Domjur with her son Palash. It was only after they had reached there that the loss was discovered. Palash took a train back to Howrah and enquired with the GRP who handed it back to him.
