According to sources, a low-fare inaugural flight of the MDLR airlines group is scheduled to be operational from April 7. The number of flights between New Delhi and Kangra is not known so far. "We have received a letter from the MDLR group for starting flights between New Delhi and Kangra next month (April)," said K K Pant, district magistrate of Kangra district, today. The Kangra airport is located some 40 km from the popular resort town of Dharamsala, which attracts tourists, particularly foreigners, to the Tibetan settlement and the seat of the Tibetan government-in-exile. Himachal Pradesh has a negligible passenger air service with barely three tiny airports in the hill state. Currently at Kangra, only a 48-seater aircraft is able to land. But the size of the airport has been increased recently to accommodate larger planes. (IANS)
