Railway officials unclear about the budgetary provision
Jaipur: Even though the Railway Minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav, announced a 50 per cent exemption in travel fare for the senior women citizens in the railway budget 2008, the beneficiaries are still deprived of it. As per the budgetary provision the exemption has to be implemented by April 1st, but according to the railway officials of Jaipur division they have not yet received any notification regarding the same. To enjoy the benefit announced by the railway ministry, women across the nation are thronging the railway ticket counters, but the railway officials are still providing only 30 per cent concession as given earlier. Vidyavati, a senior citizen of Jaipur said, “I had to leave for Bikaner on April 20 to meet my son. When I asked for 50 percent concession on reservation counter, it seemed they had no answer. Railway officials are not even registering my complaint.” Another senior citizen, Rama Devi said, “I had to leave for Bombay on 18 April, I got only 30 percent reservation relaxation on the fare. Though the railway officials in Jaipur deny receiving any notification regarding the new provision in the budget, the Additional Director General, Railway Headquarters maintain that the notification regarding the same has already been sent to the Jaipur division. However, on the issue of implementing the new scheme it is not yet clear among the railway officials as to the concession on the ticket to the senior women citizens will be given on the ticket booked from April 1st or on those booked for a journey post March 31st.
