The move comes shortly after Rajbir's wife, Narmada, demanded a probe by the CBI into the case, giving the story a new twist by saying that the alleged murderer, property dealer, Vijay Bhardwaj was innocent. She apprehended that some other people were involved in the gruesome murder of her husband. Speaking to media in New Delhi, Narmada said that her husband was a top ranking officer of the Delhi Police, so it is not possible for a mere property dealer to kill him. She also questioned the initial handling of the case by Delhi Police, accusing it of changing its stance on the issue almost everyday. Meanwhile, investigators have discovered a new angle to the story when they found that the .32 bore- revolver recovered from the scene of the murder was manufactured illegally. This new development has taken the investigators by surprise since Bhardwaj had claimed that the slain ACP gave the weapon to him three days before his murder. This makes the murder look pre-mediated. ACP Rajbir Singh was murdered point blank late on Monday night allegedly by property dealer Vijay Bhardwaj on Mehrauli-Gurgaon road. Singh who was posted in the Special Operations Squad of the Crime Branch was not accompanied by his security at the time of this incident. He was hit by two bullets in the head, which ended his life. Two live catridges and two used catridges were recovered from the place of crime.
