The CPM's draft resolution for the first time talks of the party looking at a serious third alternative. For months there have been talks about the need for alternative, but it is now official. In what is an open admission ever, the CPIM categorically stated that the need for a third alternative is being felt all the more.

The need for a third front has even been spelt out in the Draft Resolution of the CPIM, All India Congress meet being held in Coimbatore. The CPIM also stated that has it not been for the Left, the Indo-US nuke deal would have gone through.

Party General Secretary -- Prakash Karat also spelt out the Left's need to undo the military collaboration agreement with the US and to disentangle India from US' strategic embrace. He said, "The need for a third alternative is being felt all the more. If it were not for the CPM and the Left, the nuke deal would have been wrapped. Our task is not over though. We have to undo the military collaboration agreement and need to disentangle India from US' strategic embrace."
