Live bombs found on route of Maitree Express
A day before the launch of Kolkata-Dhaka Maitree Express, the Railway Police on Sunday morning recovered seven crude bombs from the way of the train near Bankimnagar station in Nadia.
At about 10 AM the GRP officials recovered an abandoned bag containing seven country made bombs from a level crossing adjacent to Bankimnagar rail station. Sources said that the local residents first found the bag lying unclaimed and informed the GRP personnel at Ranaghat after they saw ball like objects inside it.
The GRP officials later brought the bombs to Ranaghat office where they were defused. GRP officials refused to speak on the issue but sources claimed that the area is notorious and the bombs were probably left abandoned by the local criminals. They also ruled out any security threat to the train.
Meanwhile, arrangements for flagging off the Dhaka bound Maitree Express has reached its final stage. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee will flag off the train at 7.10 am in Kolkata terminus on Monday, which marks the Bengali's New Years.
The train would reach bordering Gede station at 9.25 am where it would stop for about two hours for immigration check up before proceeding Dhaka via Darshana border.
On the other hand the Kolkata bound train will also be flagged of on Monday from Dhaka cantonment station in Bangladesh at 7.50 am (IST) and expected to reach Gede 4.00 pm.
Security arrangements at the bordering Gede station in Nadia has been beefed up. Extra companies of BSF (Border Security Force) personnel have already been deployed.
