Prohibitory orders relaxed in Panchla

Prohibitory orders were relaxed today as the situation at Panchla and neighbouring areas, where at least 25 houses were set on fire and 30 houses ransacked after violent clashes between two groups on March 10, improved.

Shop-owners and local people are still apprehensive of a re-run of the violence though section 144 was relaxed. Few people are on the roads and shops are still shutters-down as the police, EFR and RAF are on stand-by, Howrah SP Niraj Kumar Singh said.

The SP said that three more persons have been arrested in connection with the clashes which had taken a communal hue to take the total number of arrested to 10.

A peace rally went through the main streets of Pachla More, Indrachura and Mir Bazar to instill confidence in the people. Two minister of the state government Robin Ghose and Mahanta Chatterjee, BJP's Rahul Sinha and Thatagata Roy, Congress' Somen Mitra and Trinamool Congress' Jayanta Bhattacharya among others participated in the rally.
