Tripura victory to strengthen Left Front unity: Biman

The landslide victory of the Left Front in Tripura would strengthen Left unity in the country and was a lesson for Congress which was "trying to divide tribals and non-tribals", the CPI(M) said in Kolkata on Friday.

"It is a fitting reply to the Congress' desperate attempts to garner votes by trying to divide the tribal and non-tribal people of Tripura and for allying with the Indegenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT)," CPI(M) state secretary and Left Front chairman Biman Bose said.

The CPI(M) leadership in Tripura had claimed that INPT had links with the banned insurgent group National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT). "The people of Tripura have voted against this unholy nexus," he said, warning that the secessionist forces were raising their heads in different parts of the country.

He lauded party stalwart in Tripura Manik Sarkar who, he said, was "one of the best Chief Ministers in the country" in terms of performance. With all the results out, the CPI-M, the dominant Left front partner, had gained three-fourths majority on its own bagging 46 seats in a 60-member assembly while its allies RSP pocketed two seats and the CPI one.

The Opposition Congress was routed winning only ten seats and its partner Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) had to remain content with a single seat.
