Posco set to begin work in Orissa

By Our Correspondent

Bhubaneswar, May 4: Posco would begin work on its mega steel plant project near Paradip in Orissa after the clearance of the forest land diversion plan by the Supreme Court, said Posco-India CMD, Mr Soung Sik Cho.

"We are awaiting the disposal of the forest land diversion case and will begin the land acquisition for the project after clearance of the forest diversion plan by the apex court", the Posco-India CMD told reporters here.

While the company has projected its land requirement for the 12 million tonne greenfield steel plant project at 4,004 acre, nearly 3,000 acres come under forest land category. The centre has cleared the diversion of forest land for the project but the case is pending with the apex court.
