Gilly’s knock was outstanding: Pollock
By OUR CORRESPONDENT
Mumbai, April 28: Deccan Chargers’ opener Adam Gilchrist came in for high praise from Mumbai Indians captain Shaun Pollock, who said the Australian left-hander took Sunday’s game away from his side completely.
Speaking to reporters after the Indians went down by 10 wickets here on Sunday, Pollock also refused to put the blame for the team’s loss on Harbhajan Singh’s suspension.
"I don’t want to put the blame on Harbhajan or the happenings. I do not deny that we missed Sachin Tendulkar who is still nursing a groin injury and Harbhajan Singh (who now faces a 11 match ban) for slapping S. Sreesanth," said Pollock.
"But I just thought that Gilly played an outstanding innings. He came on to the field and just fired," added the South African all-rounder praising the Aussie’s unbeaten knock of 109 in 47 balls, which included 10 sixes and nine boundaries.
The event was about 14 games and a lot depended on the confidence that teams displayed on the field, felt Pollock. "We lost two to three wickets upfront. We are still searching for the first win at the moment. But we haven’t given up faith. We still have a chance to finish fourth," Pollock added.
Asked when the Indians were likely to win, Pollock felt that it could be in the next game. "Hopefully, the next one could be it. We are also hopeful that Sachin will be back soon," he said.
