Abhilash to race in Malaysian Rally

Kochi: Returning to the rally scene after two years, Kerala’s P.G Abhilash, a former Raid-De-Himalaya Champion, is all set to take part in the Malaysian Rally 2008 at Johor Bahru on October 9, thereby becoming the first Keralite to drive an international event.

"This is my first rally in a four-wheel drive. I am confident of doing well and I look for podium finish," a confident Abhilash said before he left for Chennai en route Malaysia. Abhilash said he had a test drive on Sunday with prominent rallyist Karamjit Singh, the world rally champion and Asia Pacific Rally champion.

Karamjit Singh had won the Malaysia Rally championship eight times.

The Malaysia rally is the fifth round of the Asia Pacific Rally Championship, in which renowned world rallyists from Australia, Germany, New Zealand, Indonesia, China, Japan, India and Malaysia would participate.

Besides Abhilash, Gaurav Gill and Arjun Aroor are the other two rallyists from India, who will be participating in the Malaysian rally, he said. — PTI
