Sachin knows when to retire, says better-half

Mumbai

Oct. 17: There were celebrations at the Tendulkar residence in Bandra where fans gathered near his house to celebrate his breaking Brian Lara’s record of 11,953 Test runs. As he broke the record, there was a huge roar in the locality followed by bursting of crackers. The usually silent road, then witnessed people in huge numbers dancing and distributing sweets. Some fans even went to the nearby temple to express their pleasure at the feat.

Wife Anjali’s phone has not stopped ringing and she was extremely pleased and relieved after her husband became the highest run-getter in Test cricket. She felt that pressure had been created by people around him. "Sachin never plays for records.

"It is everyone else who builds up the pressure, which made him miss the record in the last Test match. Along with Sachin even I was under a lot of stress till he surpassed Lara’s record," said Anjali.

She believed that more celebrations would follow once India lifted the Border-Gavaskar trophy.

"As of now, there are no big celebrations. When we win the Australian series, we will celebrate with Sachin," Anjali added.

Tendulkar’s children were unable to catch the live telecast of the match as they are writing their exams. However, they too will celebrate with their father once he is back home.

Regarding Tendulkar’s thoughts on retirement, Anjali said, "He has played for two decades. So he knows when to retire. He never talks about hanging up his boots and is always excited to go out and play. So whenever, he feels that his time is up, he will definitely call it quits."
