Ebrahim keen to make it big in A1

By OUR CORRESPONDENT

Mumbai

Oct. 24: At 19, Armaan Ebrahim has carved a niche for himself in the world of auto-racing after first tasting international success when he finished second in the Malaysian Endurance Karting Championship in 2003.

At 15, he became the youngest ever driver in the history of Indian motorsport to win the JK Tyre National Formula LGB Single Seater Racing Car Championship. The turning point of Ebrahim’s career came when he became the youngest to be selected for Team A1 India in the A1 GP World Cup of motorsport.

Ebrahim has just finished driving for the David Price racing team in the 2008 GP2 Asia Series. Though the series was not very rewarding for him, Ebrahim believes he will be able to make a difference in the 2008-09 A1GP season.

"We have a good team. The three of us, Narain Karthikeyan, Parthiv Sureshwaran and I, gel really well. It will be a very good experience to race with Narain as he has been a Formula 1 driver and there is a lot about motorsports that I can learn from him."

Karthikeyan, lead driver for Team India added, "This year holds a lot of expectations from India and the team is looking forward to a consistent performance. Ebrahim is very talented and I won’t be surprised if he makes it to Formula 1 some day. He is the one to watch out for in the near future."

Like every other sportsperson in India, Ebrahim too feels that he has suffered due to government’s negligence towards sport. "Leave alone support, they are actually very happy to dump this sport. My father suffered the same fate and things have not change. I am happy to see a few state governments taking the initiative of building racing arenas," he said.
